US President Donald Trump said Monday, in reaction to the coronavirus outbreak and to protect US jobs, he would suspend all immigration into the United States on a temporary basis.
The move announced by the Republican President on Twitter effectively achieves Trump’s long-term policy goal of curbing immigration, making use of the health and economic crisis that has swept the country as a result of the pandemic.
The decision was quickly condemned by some Democrats, who accused the President of creating a distraction from what they saw as a slow and defective response to the coronavirus.
